This week we learnt about how the internet facilitates learning.
Typically, when we talk about E-learning, it involves interactivity between the learner and their teacher or peers. Today, I am going to talk about how the Internet/digital media, has impacted my learning in my school.
One E-learning platform that I access regularly is my University's online portal AKA UBlearns.
UBlearns has made exchanging of information, submission of assignments and communications with teachers and peers more convenient and efficient. My favourite tool in UBlearns is the grading system. It allows teachers to upload our results for each respective module, and with this, we are able to keep track of our academic standing. We also access the Discussion board regularly to have an online discussion with our teachers and peers.Last semester, I had a module (NTR 110) that was conducted entirely online. Every week our lecturer, who is based in the US, will send us clips to instruct us on our weekly assignments. We communicate with her through emails and we submit our assignments and write article reviews on the discussion board.
Apart from this, our learning in school is also made effective through the use of various digital media.
Our lecturers make powerpoint slides and project them on the screen for us, sometimes they will also show us videos as teaching visual aids.
Whenever we have group projects, we students tend to use 'Google Docs', where we create a document and type out stuff together at the same time like as if we are doing it in real life. Google docs to us, seems like a virtual classroom where we all meet at a certain timing and get our assignment done together.
Just imagine if I did not have UBlearns and Google Docs in my life.....
1. Submission of assignments have to be done in hardcopy (What a waste of time and paper)
2. Grades will be announced F2F by the teacher or maybe through letters...again what a waste of time and paper.
3. We have to physically meet up just to get our work done.....
.......The list of drawbacks goes on and on
Teaching and learning has indeed been made easier through the usage of digital media, and I think E-learning will evolve for the better and will continue to be a success in the future.
